Is Apple’s Siri Pro-Life?

"Siri" iPhone 4S

It is no surprise that eventually Apple’s newest addition, voice software Siri, would come into the line of fire. Originally, Siri received positive attention upon the iPhone 4S release on October 14, 2011, but Siri’s criticism free time is up.

What is the cause of this negativity aimed at poor Siri?

When asked to locate abortion clinics, Siri is unable to. If you are familiar with Siri, this is something that seems it would be able to do considering Siri can locate just about anything else on your command. Following an outcry from bloggers, Nancy Keenan, President of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, contacted Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, alerting him to this “error.”

But, was this really an error?

Apple says yes. Apple’s spokeswoman, Natalie Harrison said: “Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information and while it can find a lot, it doesn’t always find what you want…These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone, it simply means that, as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better, and we will in the coming weeks.”

We are just going to have to wait and see if Siri can locate abortion clinics in its next phase; abortion activists will be waiting with bated breath until then.
